Atlanta Area School for the Deaf Announces Selection of New Superintendent

Mr. J. Jack Johnson selected as Atlanta Area School for the Deaf Superintendent

The Atlanta Area School for the Deaf (AASD) and the Georgia Department of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. J. Jack Johnson as its next Superintendent. Mr. Johnson is expected to begin his role at AASD on August 1, 2022.

Mr. Johnson holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Mason University and a Master of Arts in Deaf Studies from McDaniel College. He has a track record of guiding and supporting Deaf or hard-of-hearing children, having served as a teacher, principal, curriculum specialist, interventionist, trainer, public speaker, and director. Mr. Johnson has the heart and compassion of a teacher and is enthusiastic about growing and mentoring future leaders. Mr. Johnson’s official start date is August 1, 2022.

The search for the next AASD Superintendent began in November 2021, with the AASD school community and focus groups developing a leader profile to evaluate all applicants. Next, teachers, staff, parents, community members, and the alumni search committee interviewed the candidates and selected three finalists. The search process concluded with finalists visiting the AASD campus for two days. Finalists gave presentations to students, staff, and the community, and the visits culminated in finalist interviews.

Innivee Strategies, Inc. wishes to thank the AASD community for participating in the AASD Superintendent search process, especially those who provided support as staff and volunteers. We also wish to thank the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf Board of Trustees for entrusting our company with facilitating the AASD Superintendent search process. We look forward to the future of AASD under Mr. Johnson’s leadership!
