New York School for the Deaf Announces Superintendent Finalists

The New York School for the Deaf (NYSD) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the Fanwood Superintendent finalists: Ms. Jennifer Del Conte and Dr. Joseph Santini. These finalist candidates were recommended by the NYSD Superintendent Search Committee to the NYSD Board.

The finalist interviews are the next step in the search process, led by executive search firm Innivee Strategies, Inc. The interviews will take place on-site at the NYSD campus in person. Ms. Jennifer Del Conte will visit the campus on April 7 and Dr. Joseph Santini will visit the campus on April 8, 2022. The finalist visits will include a tour of the campus, group meetings with staff and students, and an interview with the NYSD Board. About the Finalists:

Ms. Jennifer Del Conte

Ms. Jennifer Del Conte has been a leader in the field of education since her career began in 1997 as a Teacher of the Deaf. Since then, she has served in various roles within the public and private sector, including Department Chairperson for Speech and Hearing, Director of Special Education and Student Services, Principal, Director of Education and most recently Director of Special Services.

Ms. Del Conte shares a passion for the continuum of academic services for all students within the Deaf community, being an accomplished deaf professional herself. During her tenure at the American School for the Deaf, she introduced Thinking Maps, a visual thinking tool, which resulted in an overall increase of deaf students understanding of written language and raised standardized testing scores.

Ms. Del Conte holds her permanent New York State certifications that qualifies her to lead and oversee school programs at the superintendent level. When Ms. Del Conte is not working, she loves reading, walking on the beach with her dog, and vacationing in the tropics. Ms. Del Conte looks forward to welcoming all students, staff, parents, and stakeholders to join her in supporting the vision and future of the New York School for Deaf.

Dr. Joseph Santini

Dr. Santini is a seasoned school manager, writer, researcher, and education leader with nearly two decades of experience overseeing complex budgets and developing policy for school organizations. He has worked in education for fifteen years and published articles on bilingual education in the New York Times, on accommodation and differentiation and learner autonomy. His career is founded on the principles of shared leadership, equity, and student- and family-focused learning.

Dr. Santini began his career as a Program Manager with the New York Society for the Deaf; his passion for helping youth led to a focus on education and learning. He became a New York City Teaching Fellow at PS 47 in Manhattan. Dr. Santini currently works as Director of Instruction and Equity at Clerc Center, supporting both elementary and high school curriculum leaders with curriculum and implementation in line with his responsibilities as accreditation officer for the schools, and volunteers as Secretary for the National Theatre of the Deaf. Dr. Santini holds an MSc in Deaf Studies from the University of Bristol, an MA in Secondary Education from City College of New York, a certificate in Equity from University of South Florida, and a PhD in Education from Gallaudet University.

New York School for the Deaf Anuncia Finalistas Para el Puesto de Superintendente

La Junta Directiva de New York School for the Deaf ha revisado los candidatos recomendados por El Comite de Búsqueda para un Nuevo Superintendente de NYSD y se complacen en anunciar a los candidatos finalistas: Sra. Jennifer Del Conte y Dr. Joseph Santini.

Sra. Jennifer Del Conte

Sra. Jennifer Del Conte ha sido un líder en el campo de la educación desde que comenzó su carrera como maestra de personas sordas en 1997. Como persona sorda realizada, la Sra. Del Conte comparte una pasión en lo que toca a la provisión de servicios académicos a todos estudiantes sordos de la comunidad. Durante su tiempo en American School for the Deaf, ella introdujo Mapas de Razonamiento, una herramienta visual que promueve el razonamiento la cual ha ayudado a estudiantes sordos a desarrollar entendimiento de lenguaje escrito y ha resultado en calificaciones más altas en evaluaciones.

Sra. Del Conte cuenta con certificaciones permanentes del Estado de Nueva York que la califican para dirigir y supervisar programas escolares a nivel de superintendente. Cuando la Sra. Dr. Joseph Santini

Dr. Santini es un gerente escolar con mucha experiencia, escritor, investigador y líder educacional con casi veinte años de experiencia supervisando presupuestos complejos y desarrollando políticas para organizaciones escolares. El ha trabajado en el campo de educación por quince años y ha publicado artículos pertinentes a la educación bilingüe en el periodico New York Times sobre acomodación, diferenciación y autonomía del alumno. Su carrera se ha fundado sobre los principios de liderazgo compartido, equidad y aprendizaje enfocado sobre estudiantes y sus familias.

Dr. Santini empezó su carrera como Gerente de Programa en New York Society for the Deaf; su pasión por ayudar a adolescentes llevó a un enfoque sobre educación y aprendizaje. Se convirtió en Docente Titular en la Ciudad de Nueva York en PS 47. Actualmente el Dr. Santini sirve como Director de Instrucción y Equidad en el Clerc Center aportando apoyo a líderes que especializan en planes de estudio e implementando estos planes de estudio a nivel primaria y secundaria en línea con sus responsabilidades como oficial de acreditación para las escuelas, y se ofrece como Secretario voluntario del Teatro Nacional para Sordos.
